While they were fun to make, they had problems

I do a bit of DIY and have made some homemade stirrers from computer fans and cigar boxes. Although it was fun, they had problems. They went through the bar, it was difficult to find the right potentiometers for the power supplies etc. So after the fan broke building my last starter, I broke down and bought this agitator. I like: 1. Comes with two bars, each of which can move my 2000ml yeast starters2. Rubber feet prevent it from hitting the countertop loudly. It's quiet.3. Lightweight but doesn't feel cheap. The switch has a green LED that lets you know it's on. The speed adjustment knob is not too tight or too loose, making it easy to adjust. 4. The power supply is separate from the plate itself, making it easy to clean and pack. Price. When evaluating the components for my homemade cymbals, the cost was typically around $40. But then I would buy the wrong part, or wire the potentiometer wrong and burn it. I defiantly spent far more than the $59 I spent on this plate. There are so many things I don't like: 1. Diameter. According to the product description the volume is 3000ml. I think they had cylindrical containers in mind when writing this specification. I'm using this with a 2000mL Erlenmeyer flask, so the bottom diameter of the flask is noticeably wider than the plate. I work but a little unreliable.2. The top surface is made of hard plastic and is quite smooth, even with a molded texture. I would like a grippier rubber surface to hold my often damp glass jar. I will definitely find a thin sheet of rubber and glue it to the top of the stirrer.3. With my 2000 ml volume, it raises the bar by about a third of the maximum value. It's not a big problem for me because I don't have to stir as fast, but that's it.4. The speed control displays 12 o'clock in its lowest position and 9 o'clock in its highest position. I know it's picky but I want it to start at 6am. It's just an aesthetic complaint, but that's me. In general I am very satisfied. There are only a few things I would change if I designed it myself, but it's fully functional and for the price you can't beat any other commercial agitator.
