Review on Optimized SHIMANO PTFE Road Brake Cable and Housing Set by Giovanni Bedjohn

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Are there only two tips in the kit? Don't they have rings? what to do shimano

Cables and housing are of good quality and work well. There was enough cable and housing for my street frame with side brakes. I don't believe the cable is PTFE coated (like the description says) rather they have standard (stainless steel?) steel cable and a PTFE liner. Corps. Teflon coated housings make a world of difference in how your brakes feel. You still need to lubricate the cables, but the PTFE liner lets them slide with very little friction. I preloaded the cables by squeezing the cable against the body with a couple of locks and pulling the lever against the stem a few times before trimming them. (If you do this, be sure to pull the cable into the case before you cut it.) This helped with the installation as I only had to position the cable correctly the first time and the adjustment stayed in place. Why aren't they working? Get a Five Star Rating: It says "all tips" are included to complete the job, but there are only two body tips, and those two aren't sealed with an O-ring. I only had two o-rings on hand so I used those on the lever side. What do you want from me, leave them? The ends of the cables are big and ugly, but they get the job done. I used much better looking ends made from less material.

Pros
  • Bike brakes and parts
Cons
  • Some bugs
