I measured my foot with a clothing tape measure. I ordered the size that gave me 1/4 inch extra. room for thick socks. For example, my foot measured approx 9 3/4 inches. Per their size chart, that is an 8.5, but that would have been a very tight fit. I got the next size up because I know I wear thick socks, and was able to get my foot in easily with my thick socks and it fit snugly but not uncomfortably. It was very comfortable. I would not buy based on your assumption of what size you wear and instead measure, because I always am a 9.5 and what I ended up getting was a 9. Larger would have been uncomfortably loose. They're also very attractive. I'm so pleased with them.
