Placement is a little tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's as easy as it gets! Of course you won't get the exact look of a real tile/mortar, but they're close enough that no one will notice. For the installation I bought a new utility knife and steel ruler as recommended by several reviews, but scissors proved to be much easier to use. With no fault of the product I had little trouble as most of the counters don't seem to be level at all. An easy fix if your builders feel the same way: after you're done with the main pieces, save the leftovers to cut and fill any sloping gaps along the floor. Then just add some sealant and even I don't notice (close-up attached). I ended up using 3 1/2 packs and the total install time was less than 3 hours. I also bought extra glue but it's sticky enough to stick well to our 30 year old plastic apron. I think using the Krud Kutter before installing helped a lot as it took the shine off the surface so there was something to stick to. I was very careful and tried to iron every seam, but at the very end I took a damp towel and went through every seam again. We live in a very humid state of Alabama and they have lasted six months with no problems. We had an old phone jack in our wall that was right next to a cord jack and outlet, and NONE of them were evenly or evenly spaced (again, builder). I added a plug to the cable jack, but since the phone jack was sticking out like a thumb, I covered the wires and carefully covered the hole with tiles. It took me forever to find the right angle and lighting to see even the smallest part of my cover (I've circled it in the attached image), but otherwise you'd never be able to see it. Note: I used a Giani countertop paint kit and remodeled my kitchen in 3 days for less than $200 and you just can't beat it. Both items sat in my basket for months while I searched for instructions rather than just doing it. So if you're on the fence, stop waiting for "one day" and just do it. After all, I love walking around our kitchen! One more note: they are sold out and I panicked when I had to reorder. I finally found some of these listed on Revain under LongKing Subway Tiles and they were the exact same tiles that worked great!
