We were able to save Mom's beloved old lamp by replacing the rotary switch. The inside of the compartment on this replacement was a bit tighter than the original and it took a couple of well placed pliers to squeeze the cord to make it thin enough, but then it worked and she's happy. We would have liked to screw it in more tightly, but had to leave a small gap to allow the swivel mechanism to rotate. Like I said, it was tight, but it worked.
