Review on High-Speed Dual Band Wi-Fi Gigabit Router by NETGEAR: Ideal for Mac and PC (WNDRMAC) by Todd Stone

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Has worked long enough, warranty is up

Worked great for 1 year and 1 month. Now that the warranty has expired, the Wi-Fi is starting to fail and there is a constant high-pitched squeak when the router is turned on. This is a dual-band router, the 2.5GHz band only broadcasts intermittently, even if you have to re-enter your password. 5GHz lasts longer but has an extremely weak signal at only 5-10 feet. Tried flashing, factory reset, turning off and using the Wi-Fi on/off button on the router to no avail. Devices connected via Ethernet cable had no problem connecting to the Internet. I was having a hard time finding an accurate hardware warranty for this model, even with all the original packaging, so I called tech support. Turns out there's a 1-year hardware warranty and a 90-day tech support warranty. As mentioned it is 1 year and 1 month from the date of purchase so they wanted me to pay $40 to try and fix the unit myself and if the item turns out to be still faulty, Do I still have to pay the full replacement cost. So the buyer should be warned, you may get lucky, but mine broke down almost immediately after the warranty expired.
