Review on Milwaukee Electric Tool 48-22-3982: 100 Ft. Bold Line Chalk Reel and Refill for Precise Marking by Troy Early

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Different but good

I have three Tajima chalk boxes, they are very good but expensive. The lines will stretch under heavy tension as you are used to. This box has a line that doesn't stretch, which is actually very nice. Some reviewers don't like the line thickness. It is no thicker than others and advertised as "fat" line. The hook is similar to Tajima lines, you get used to it because it's "hooky", so no obsessive-compulsive disorder on the hook. The gearing works very well, rewinding is smooth and fast. Tajima needs its own chalk to work properly, straight chalk ruins it as it's not fine enough. This could also apply to Milwaukee, used nothing but Milwaukee chalk, just an assumed limitation. I now have two Milwaukee chalk lines and haven't had a single break in the last few years, although you might want to re-knot the hook as the factory doesn't always do it well, but with those gears and box springs, pulling the line out from the inside involves little ones Pieces that lend themselves to neat placement. Depending on your source, they range from 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of Tajima. All of my other old chalk boxes are now tied to plumb lines, which are used less frequently but more effectively.
