Just had a backup camera + tailgate handle installed this weekend. This is actually the second camera tailgate handle I've bought from Amazon. The predecessor was from a different manufacturer at the same price. When I got this, I was immediately skeptical about the quality. It was all plastic and didn't feel that strong. In fact, it broke when I tried to use it to open the back door while I was still completing the installation (the handle was installed and I was working on routing the cables). Honestly I'm glad it broke then I took it back and returned this piece of junk. After playing some more I decided to give Gate Masters a try hoping they would be of higher quality. as they claim. When it arrived I was disappointed to find that it was also made almost entirely of plastic, but it seemed to be of a higher quality than the previous pen. I wish they would at least make the lever that pushes the tailgate opener out of metal (or reinforce it with metal braces). Nevertheless, I made progress. Can't comment on durability (fingers crossed), of course, but so far I'm impressed. It fits perfectly in the factory tailgate handle and looks great. The installation was easy as expected and the picture quality seems good to me. Installed on Tundra Crewmax 2011. The video cable was long enough to run under the body, going through the passenger side fire grommet into the engine bay and behind the main unit and possibly coming out is a foot or 2. Here are my only complaints (and they're pretty minor, to be honest): 1) The quick connector should be about 3 or 4 feet be further down the cable. It is then located just behind the tailgate so it can be used for a quick release should you need to remove the tailgate. He's about 6 inches from the camera, so he's hiding in the back door instead. 2) I want the power cables to be the same length as the video cable. I chose to connect the camera to the same power source as the main unit (that way it always has power, and not just when reversing, which would be the case if you would power them from the reverse lights). You could probably find another always-on power supply closer, but you still have to run the video line there. Why not just take it from where you know what it is. Unfortunately the power cables aren't nearly as long as the video cable so I had to buy additional cables to solder and extend them. It worked fine, but it would be nice if I didn't have to. 3) It would be nice if the wire included a third wire for the reverse trigger. A reliable way to connect a reversing signal to the main unit is to connect it to the reversing lights at the rear of the vehicle. Some kids have an extra cable along with video + power for this very purpose. I actually found a reverse trigger in the cockpit (light blue wire in the bottom white connector of the passenger kick panel for the 2nd gen Trundra), so I just ran a short wire from there to start the trigger. On the other hand, this would be the case if they just added one more wire to the wiring harness for ease of installation. Overall I am very satisfied so far. As long as nothing breaks in the future, I consider it a win. My complaints are minor and all were easily overcome. Feed the video cable through the firewall grommet from the other side. not so easy :) On the other hand, this would be the case if they just added one more wire to the wiring harness for ease of installation.
