Maybe it's better for you to choose the mushroom caps

I've noticed that these plugs are a bit small (3/8 diameter) and if you're not careful they go too deep. I use a precision 3/8 Forstner bit to drill the counter hole. The tapered plug should fit snugly like a tapered plug. It may be better to use mushroom-shaped plugs.
