I bought this to upgrade a mid 90's Cannondale M400 mountain bike. The rod fit perfectly into the steering column, but at first I couldn't tighten it at all - the bolt just turned and there was never any real tension. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the supplied bolt is shorter than the one that comes standard on the bike and also that the small wedge on the underside that expands to tighten the stem is smooth (pictured) whereas the one that comes stock was, my bundled bike has crests. I decided to try an old screw and wedge and that suddenly solved the problem. I've been on several trips and so far nothing has been lost. This may be a mistake on my part, not ordering the right product or not knowing enough about my bike, but the bottom line is that it doesn't work for me right away. If I hadn't thought of mixing the old parts with the new ones I would have had to send it back. I'm not exactly sure what bike this comes out of the box with, but if you have an old Cannondale I wouldn't recommend ordering it unless you have original parts. I would spend more for a new one. a product made in the USA, but in terms of functionality and value for money you can hardly complain here.
