Merino wool is perfect for winter activities. I've tried everything. Cotton gets wet when you sweat and makes you feel cold all day. Plastic materials never get hot when switched on. I've always been a fan of wool as it wears like iron but can scratch. This is not merino wool, it is soft and durable. I can wear merino wool several times while skiing and it never stinks. You can sweat a lot in it and it doesn't retain moisture. When skiing and outdoors I wear both tops and bottoms made from merino wool. As for these, I love the thumb holes. No more digging out your sleeve to pull up your shirt. I also love the zip neck. Staying warm is important and it's amazing how you can shed some heat by unzipping a little. I took a size up and it still fits well. This is great for an undershirt but I would take two sizes for a dress shirt. Overall a great product but don't forget to tumble dry it!
