To be honest the instructions are a bit vague especially the part about connecting to the "CPU fan" header lol but once you understand what's going on it just works and works great. Select the PWM fan channel on your board, connect it to the controller and also to the 5V argb header, then connect all fans, connect SATA, done. I know the instructions say to hold down the button to sync to the motherboard, but I think it's just a matter of going into "just do what the argb input says" mode return to what appears to be the default. Literally just plugged in as instructed, loaded my M/B RGB software, selected effect and boom, all good. Even at full speed these things are pretty quiet and pump air and I'm one of those guys who usually put quality polar fans in builds.
