
I bought this a few weeks ago during a $299 sale. Overall, there are notable improvements over the first-gen HMD Odyssey in terms of tracking and image quality. It's still a bit tight if you wear glasses, but I'm looking at some 3D printing solutions that I'll try soon. As for the screen-door effect, yes, it is SIGNIFICANTLY reduced. I wouldn't say it's gone completely, it's definitely still there, but you'll have to seek and seek for it. I've decided to use my Oculus to play games and use it to watch 360 videos and 180 videos/photos that I make. I have a 360 Fly and a Lenovo Mirage (180 degrees) which I didn't quite enjoy the video of before watching it on the Samsung HMD Odyssey+. They're still not as clear as we'd like, but this is definitely a step in the right direction. I'll try to get some shots through the lens and post them here. Pros: + Best image quality I've ever seen on a VR device. + Cost, buy it at a discount if you can recapture the $299 price tag. + Lightweight and relatively comfortable. + Tracking is pretty reliable for the limited number of things I've tried. + The physical setup is very simple. No external sensors or cameras are required. Cons: - Field of view hasn't improved, it still looks like you're sticking your head out the window. This is more of an issue if you wear glasses, as that extra 1/2 inch from the Samsung lenses pulls your head a little further away from the window, making the field appear smaller. - Controllers are "clunky" compared to Oculus Touch. Not only the loss of tracking at certain positions, but also the actual layout of the buttons and panel. Oculus Touch is still the gold standard for me, I wish they would work with the Samsung HMD Odyssey+. It would be a killer combination. While the SDE is MUCH better than any other device I've seen, I wish the actual resolution was higher. It still lacks the clarity of a phone screen or monitor. Finding the sweet spot is difficult, and glasses make it even more difficult. I have to try contact lenses. It seems like WMR still needs some additional setup and fiddling to get SteamVR to work together. It works, but I seem to have issues and have to restart the experience more often than I did with Oculus. I'll add more as I keep playing with it.
