They work reasonably well and can get a lot of sound through the speaker even when powered at 3.3V Four stars are given for three reasons only: 1) The mute and power off pins are not defective output - I had to raise the pin on the chip and add a jumper to access it. 2) The distance between the holes doesn't exactly match the layout when it was that simple. 3) The DC blocking capacitors appear to be huge, giving an RC time constant well in excess of what is required for "bass response". Center. Of course they (or any other amps) shouldn't be hit straight away, but it could very well happen when debugging projects where people are most likely to use them. In short, it's probably worth concatenating your inputs to them via a smaller cap. Also note that with a 4 ohm speaker they can be power guzzlers which, if care is not taken in system design, can result in disruption in loud parts. Song.
