We have a child who suffers from a very rare genetic disease called phenylketonuria so we need a very accurate scale to weigh his food. We've always used cheap $20 scales and the numbers have always changed. That's why we decided that for the sake of our sons' health, it's worth spending money. It was great to bring a weight to make sure the scale was properly calibrated. This means that every time we cook, I make sure my sons' numbers are correct. Good product.
