Smells Bad: Fish & Aquatic Pets

Soak for more than a week and change the bucket of water every day. Cholla wood still smells like boiled eggs. I've bought other brands and never had this problem. I won't be throwing them in my tank anytime soon, if ever.

Pros
  • These logs are popular with shrimp, fry, tropical fish like betta, gourami, pleco and hermit crabs. Cholla Wood holes provide hiding spots for small breeds after they shed their skin or when they are feeling vulnerable. They are also a food source that shrimp feed on, much like some leaves. The wood will eventually crack, but the thinnest pieces take at least a year and the thicker even longer.
