Review on Multimeter Auto Ranging Multimeters Electrical Resistance by Gavin Dunne

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very good but not perfect

These cheap little Chinese tools are a great, cheap but decent quality alternative to overpriced Fluke test tools. Their accuracy exceeds published specifications for most functions and they work as described in the listings. They use two inexpensive AAA batteries instead of the more expensive 9V batteries used in most other cheap DMMs, and their build quality is solid. The only downside I've found to using these gauges for home electrical work is that they will "falsely trip" new ARC fault circuit breakers 100% of the time when testing for ground fault current. This is because they are very short circuited as they auto range when first plugged in. Many other autoranging DMMs also suffer from this limitation. Newer ARC fault switches detect this normally harmless short circuit and turn off the power. In these cases, I use a non-autoranging DMM. Overall very good value for money. Put one in your tool box and you won't be disappointed!

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Good but not great
