My Macbook's built in speaker and microphone used to be used for community group conferences and the microphone wasn't the best when used with a group of people in a room . So I bought this device hoping to improve people's ability to hear in Zoom video conferencing software. There were several things that attracted me to this device. 1) It was relatively inexpensive, which is a plus. 2) It was advertised as omnidirectional. . My Macbook has a standard internal microphone that can only pick up voices that are closest to it. There are problems when people are talking on the other side of the table - the sound would be bad. I was hoping that the omnidirectional quality would allow for better audio pickup from multiple directions. Overall, this is a pretty good omnidirectional mic. The only downside is that it's not a powerful microphone as it connects to a laptop via a USB connection, so the audio picks up better in a small room than in a large conference room.
