Reliability issues with power strips and surge protectors

I've bought two of these before and have had no problems with them. The third purchase, however, is a different story. My first problem was trying to set the time. I tried several times and for some reason the time never changed; When my lamp, which was connected to the timer, did not turn on, I noticed that the time did not change. This is where I originally set it up. Now I was able to set the timer with no problems. I found that I can set the time by pressing the reset button (requires a paperclip inserted in the hole) and now the clock actually works. By the way, this is not mentioned anywhere in the manual. Great I thought. Now all I had to do was reset the timer and everything would be fine. Not so. After the reset, the timer function stopped working. Every time I tried to enter the minutes, all of the LCD segments on the display would light up and the time would be erased. I went back to flashing 12:00. I've tried restarting the device multiple times and I couldn't set the timer, which used to work fine. When looking at another competitor's electronic timer, I noticed many issues with these programmable timers in the reviews. I would say 25 percent had programming or reliability issues with these devices. There seems to be a reliability issue here. So I returned that block and bought a mechanical timer. Hey, it just works.
