The most frequently asked question: what to choose, the original or the compact version? The original model mirror measures approximately 37mm x 29mm with an 81mm fitting. The compact dimensions are approximately 37mm x 18mm with 46mm anchor. (See photos for dimensions.) So the original is 61% larger than the compact, but 76% further from the attachment point.1. Because the original is farther from the eyes, it's a little easier to focus on. Most people have no problem focusing with any mirror, but some people report that it is easier to focus with the real thing.2. Because the original has a longer anchor, it tends to bounce or vibrate a bit more.3. Because the home view is squarer than the compact view, it's sometimes easier to see what you're looking at. With more visibility in the foreground and background, the frame of reference makes it a little easier to understand what you're seeing. (A squarer look also helps smooth out the effects of vibration, effectively offsetting the longer anchor.) 4. Because the Compact is much closer to the eye, it offers a significantly wider field of view.5. Because the Compact is smaller and closer to the face, it is slightly less obtrusive and revealing to the wearer.6. Both mirrors can be adjusted so that the longer dimension is either horizontal or vertical. If desired, the mirror can even be tilted. The joints and frame are stiff enough to stay in place after adjustment. They will NOT loosen or sag with normal wear and tear. Personally, I have no problem focusing with any mirror. That's why I prefer to use the compact version for day walks. I found that I like its smaller, more compact form. And it seems to do about the same job. For night hikes, however, I prefer the original. It's hard to know what I'm seeing in the dark and a more square image helps me with that. I also don't feel as self-conscious with a large mirror under the cover of darkness. At this price I suggest users buy both versions.
