To make the circular ice cubs, there is a top and bottom silicone piece that you place into one another then can load water into the top hole directly or with the included plastic funnel. The square cube maker, you easily just fill up directly but sadly there is no cover to this piece, so there is a chance you can get particles within your ice. It is mentioned in manual that these are dishwasher safe but you should not keep in freezer longer than two minutes or when ice is completely frozen as the flexibility of the silicone tightens and there is a chance you can rip the silicone. So I guess the best solution is to make the ice and then switch over from these silicone trays over to ziplock bags to prevent any early damage of the trays. The trays provide pretty good desired shapes and makes it easy to expel from the trays due to the soft silicone.
