Review on 🎧 Sabaj Da3 Portable USB DAC & Headphone Amplifier: SABRE9018Q2C OLED Screen, DSD512, 32bit/768kHz by Rachel Coppedge

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good DAC but has some rough spots

I highly recommend this DAC. As others have said, you get a lot of quality features and components for a very good price, but it does have a few flaws that prevent me from giving it 5 stars. In order of concern: Aesthetics: who would have thought that making a non-rectangular case with very sharp corners and edges would be a good idea? It's not particularly comfortable to hold in my hands and it's not what I need next to the screen of my fragile phone. Windows Drivers: As another reviewer pointed out, it's anything but "plug and play" to work properly with Windows. While Windows 10 Creators Update is said to support USB Audio 2.0 natively, I've found that it doesn't work with all applications. The Da3 also doesn't support USB Audio 1.0, so you can't just plug it into a computer running Windows 7 or higher and get it working without drivers. This leads to my second complaint - when I bought this the Sabaj website was down for 3 days. I couldn't download Windows drivers and couldn't find any other source for them. When I was finally able to download the drivers, I was able to use them with all my applications, with the limitation mentioned by another reviewer - no higher than 32-bit 192kHz. This is not a problem with my Android phone - I can use higher sample rates and DSD 512. No adjustable gain: I use this with very efficient in-ear monitors. The volume is about 39 stops, but with my extra powerful headphones, anything over 15 is ridiculously loud. that comes with my phone. This isn't an issue if you're using this on a desktop, but it will likely get more than a few hours of battery life from your phone with active use.
