I use Maxxis Recon on the front of a Jones spaceframe and love it! It has enough sidewall for stability on ventilated descents, the center lugs are close enough to roll on hardpack and gravel without excessive vibration, the side lugs cut deep into turns and are blown through by a tight-fitting tubeless. A great size that I really like between the regular 3-inch 29-plus sizes and the standard 29-inch offerings. It showed minimal front end wear over more than 700 miles of mixed terrain in New Mexico and western Washington state.
