2 nuts and 1 plug...removed and reinstalled on my 2003 MINI Cooper S in 10 minutes. It literally took longer to lift the car than it did to fix. I should note that I installed a Hotchkis TVS Stage 2 lowering kit which lowered my car about 1 inch below stock so it's a bit difficult to boot it up. I am the original owner of the vehicle and this is my second power steering fan assembly (PSF) replacement. This is a known design issue with the cooling of the Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS) unit, and I now know that there are also direct aftermarket cooling options available. .The original factory PFS build didn't have a shield over the fan, so object damage may have played a role in its failure. My first replacement PFS build didn't come with a shield either, so I bought and installed an aftermarket model . option with it. I mention this because it means I have an average lifespan of 7.5 years from the first 2 PFS builds. This (second) PFS build came with a protective shield preinstalled and I'm hoping to get 7.5+ years of life from it. From what I remember my first replacement was about 50% more expensive than the second replacement, so the price is going down. When you hold a product in your hands, you know how it works and you know how easy it is to fix it, the cost seems a bit high. But you should have it, because if you fry the EHPS module, you'll likely hit nearly a $1000 repair (if you do it yourself).
