Ubiquiti: Enterprise-class features at consumer prices

This is the third Ubiquiti AP I have installed in our house. We have a UAP-AC-PRO in the middle of the house serving most of the indoor areas, a UAP-AC-LITE in mesh mode (i.e. no LAN cable) in the garage and now this second -LITE has been added along the distributed outer wall closest to our rear deck as the -PRO signal could not penetrate our steel fairing unaided. So far I am very happy with the platform. It's true that the powerful, full-featured controller-based UI is likely to be quite intimidating for novice users. I believe an Android/iOS app could be used instead, but I've never tried it. I'm an IT professional, specifically a network engineer, so I love that this free controller software and inexpensive hardware gives me many of the same enterprise features I use at work on my much more expensive hardware from a major enterprise vendor. . If we hadn't invested so heavily in one particular Bay Area supplier, I would seriously consider buying them for work as well. The signal and speed of these access points was impressive, and the reliability was second to none. I've looked through quite a few consumer brand variations over the years and they've always had to be restarted frequently and had their issues. These devices only restart when there is a firmware update or a power outage. Conclusion: I am very satisfied with these access points.

Pros
  • Solid construction
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
