Review on Tenergy NiCd SubC 2200mAh Paper Wrapped Rechargeable Battery Flat Top with Tabs - 15 Pack: Reliable and Long-Lasting Power Source by Dominic Maxwell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

If you enjoy soldering, these cells will work adequately.

I've invested heavily in the DeWalt Corps cordless power tool division! Maybe because I'm familiar with their use, or because they're usually cheaper than other brands. Anyway, the best price I could find for a pair of 18V XRP batteries was $99 + tax at a local hardware store. I soldered batteries one by one from previous projects so this is what I got. The Dewalt XRP 18V battery is made up of 12 1.5V cells connected in series. I'm not sure about mAh but I think I've read that it's less than Tenergy's 2200mAh rating. A higher mAh value allows the cells to store more energy, resulting in longer runtime between charges. I opened up my dead Dewalt battery and as I unwrapped all the cells I noticed that the middle cell had burned the metal strip that connected it to the next in series. I did not replace the failed battery with a newer one as there may be a difference in the mAh rating. In any case, after soldering a lot of pluses (+) to minuses (-) and wrapping the elements according to the configuration of the cases, I put it in the charger. With my memory, I believe my new Tenergy/DeWalt XRP battery will last longer.
