Review on 🔧 360° Rotating Self-Leveling Construction Tool for Vertical and Horizontal Applications by George Utley

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Easy to use and accurate, but with some quirks

This is a powerful and accurate tool that can be used in many applications. The green lasers are very bright and the tool is easy to use. There's a main swivel switch to turn it on, and then buttons on top to activate the horizontal and vertical beams. The rotary switch also locks the ±3° leveling float when it is off. It performs a quick laser check when first switched on and is then ready for use. An alarm will sound if the device is tilted more than 3° out of plane. The adjustable feet give you about 1/2 inch of adjustment on each foot to help level the device, but be aware that if you overtighten them, you could easily and unintentionally unscrew the foot from its base the next time you unwrap. ! The red plumb laser stays on, but since it's projecting through the tripod mounting hole, it gets blocked when the tripod is set up. The lasers themselves are bright enough for outdoor use, but you'll find that the further you go, the thicker the beam gets. At 10 m (32 ft) out, the beam is about 4 mm or 3/16 inch thick, compared to about 1.5 mm (1/16 inch) thick at about 1-3 m (3-9 ft). A horizontal beam with a static coverage angle of about 120° will appear to "ripple" as it approaches the center origin, but this doesn't affect its clarity much. Since the device is equipped with a horizontal swivel mechanism, the bar can be rotated 360°. also has a fine adjustment dial but I found it can be a little temperamental at times and will be elusive at first. When you grab it, you can fine-tune the crosshair's position if you use vertical lines. The device also has an "OUTDOOR" button that doesn't seem to do anything other than turn off the tilt alert. I assumed based on the product description that it would block the floating tilt mechanism, allowing the device to be tilted at will. However, this is not the case if my device is defective. Also, the "OUTDOOR" switch requires a "long" press to turn the tilt on and off. On the other hand, although the unit includes a tripod adapter, it's just a 5/8"-11 to 5/8"-11 tilt adapter, so you'll need a 5/8-11 to 1/4-20 adapter need if you want to use it with a standard 1/4-20 camera tripod. The product also includes green-tinted goggles, but the lenses are so rough that they serve no useful purpose. At first I thought they had a protective plastic sheet on them, but they don't. You are terrible. On the other hand, the device comes with a great protective case with an adjustable strap and space for some accessories, especially if you lose your glasses! The operating instructions are kept very simple and have been hidden in the sleeve behind a foam pad. The MIne did not come with extra AA batteries as stated in the main description but I agree to using the internal rechargeable Li-Ion battery. I believe inserting AA batteries disables the Li-Ion battery, but there is both a standard DC charging input and a micro USB on the side of the unit. All in all, this is a powerful laser level and is currently priced significantly cheaper than comparable models. So I'm giving it 4 stars because of the shortcomings.
