Skeptical. suitable for home theater

Like many posters, I am skeptical about these cheap mini components but decided to give it a try. My expectations were low which is good in the world of audio enhancement, we all know how the placebo effect can be of falling in love with Gear Love before it's even released! Anyway, this thing is tiny and feels a little fragile with all the cables connected. No problems connecting hoses so that was good. My goal with this was purely experimental, tuning for fun like many audio nerds are. I use it as a buffer - I run an Onkyo 7030 CD player into this preamp and then connect it to my fully restored Sansui 317 integrated amplifier via the AUX RCA input, not the preout - the speakers are the Ascend Acoustic 340se -Network. So it gets tone control functions on both the tube preamp and the built-in amplifier, with which I can shape the sound a bit more. I had to adjust the volume on both the preamp and the amp, but that's not a problem. It was completely dead, it was the first test for me, at least I knew it wasn't causing any discernible hissing or hissing. I noticed more bass density, the highs seem smoother at this early stage with the standard tubes. It sounds surprisingly good and gives me the ability to fine tune bass and treble. So, yes, it did affect my system and that's why I just ordered a set of Russian lamps to test. In fact I can build an office system around these mini preamp/amps since I have an extra set of good bookshelf speakers.

Pros
  • Constant test results
Cons
  • Slightly torn
