I received this product today. It's surprisingly small, just 1.75 x 2.5 x 5/8 inches. I'm intrigued by its size and quality construction and after reading the positive reviews here on Revain I think this little device would probably be great for detecting carbon monoxide in my car. It's very easy to use, just one button and has a good set of features to detect carbon monoxide in a car and works right out of the box. use at home. Home units have higher CO thresholds (to avoid too many alarms) and much louder alarms so they can be heard at a distance. This detector is specially designed for use in small spaces like a car. The detector I received came in a very small box, measuring just 2.25" x 3.25" x 1" and included a very tiny 4" x 5.5" one-page instruction manual ( attached to this review.) I saw a review of this product on YouTube (https://youtu.be/ffGV4ORnq8U) from December 2017 showing the exact same product in a much larger box than I received, with several pages full Instructions but I'm like a little box (save the trees!) and the tiny instructions I received seem to cover the necessary information Oddly the manufacturer doesn't seem to have a website(!) so all the product information available is just there on a small page of instructions, Q&A and reviews here at Revain (and elsewhere?) and in a single YouTube review I found (above), so if anyone finds it helpful I've put all the information together below Here are some things I found about this product: 1. This detector comes with a handy plastic clip with a 3M pull-off bracket to attach it to a surface in your car (if you have one). you want to attach one). It's a little tricky to detach the detector from the plastic clip on the first try, but it gets easier with practice. Also, you don't have to remove the sensor from the clip often because the battery lasts a long time (see below).2. The instructions state not to place the detector in direct sunlight as it will not function properly in temperatures above 122F. Above this temperature, the device will display "---" until the temperature drops below 122F.3. You can use the detector immediately. The battery is installed and ready to use.4. To turn on the device, press and hold the power button for 3 seconds. The display will show "CAL” (meaning "Calibration”) for 3 minutes, emit a short beep to indicate the warm-up calibration is complete, and then display the CO reading (which is normally 0). To turn it off, press and hold the power button again for 3 seconds until the display turns off. If you turn it on again, you will see "CAL" message again within 3 minutes.5. The detector is designed so that you can leave it on at all times, unless you want to reset the maximum CO level (see below). The instructions say it will last 8-12 months on the included battery and then you can change batteries. By the way, it uses a regular CR2032 button battery, which is very easy to find in a pharmacy or elsewhere (the exact battery type is not specified in the instructions). When the battery is low, the instructions say the device will beep every 30 seconds. The detector displays continuous CO readings that you can check at any time.7. When the detector has a continuous CO reading of at least 9 ppm for at least 60 seconds, the red LED will flash and you can always see the actual CO level on the detector's display.8. If the detector shows a continuous CO reading of at least 25 ppm for at least 60 seconds, a buzzer will sound in addition to the flashing red LED. (I don't know if the buzzer is an intermittent beep or a continuous buzzer sound, but numerous reviews here report that the buzzer definitely catches your attention.) 9. The small instruction manual (attached) in the introduction says this detector has a third alarm mode that is triggered if the level exceeds 50ppm for an extended period of time, but this third alarm mode is not mentioned in the rest of the instructions or the manual. List of features here on Revain. I don't know if there actually is a third alarm mode or if this information was inadvertently entered in the instructions, but in any case the 25ppm alarm obviously covers the 50ppm case as well.10. To view the maximum CO reading since the device was last reset, briefly press and release the power button, the blue "MAX” LED will illuminate and the display will show the maximum CO reading detected for 5 seconds. until normal operations resume. You can repeat this as often as you like. The read max CO action does NOT reset the max level reading to zero; this is still written inside the block.11. If you wish to reset the maximum CO value to reset it to zero, you must turn off the detector, turn it on again and wait 3 minutes for the 'CAL' message to disappear and the device to beep (see above). This reset process is a little fiddly when trying to run multiple tests to see if the CO leak is fixed. But hopefully that doesn't happen to you too often. 12. All CO detectors have an end-of-life date, after which the detector must be factory serviced or scrapped and replaced as it will no longer provide a reliable CO reading. This limitation is inherent in CO sensor technology. This detector is no exception. The device I received in June 2018 has a sticker on the back saying it will expire in January 2021, which is 2.5 years from now. Neither the instructions nor anywhere on the internet that I found mentions what happens when this particular metal detector is empty. I assume it's still behaving normally, except you can't fully trust its CO levels, which is a little concerning. Another reviewer here on Revain mentioned the same issue. Also, some CO detectors have an option to return the detector to the company when it is empty to have a new CO sensor installed and tested, and at a lower cost than simply replacing the unit, but this is not mentioned . maintenance of this detector. I just have to kind of remember to throw away this CO alarm after January 2021. Here is my feature request for the next version of this detector: At end of life indication "EOF" on the display and "Beep Beep" every 30 seconds to inform the customer that the detector is no longer reliable is and should be replaced. I expect this carbon monoxide detector will be very useful in my car.
