New to Juicing: Small Appliances

We wanted to try juicing as a healthier lifestyle starting in the New Year. Since we weren't sure if we would really like it, we didn't want to spend a lot of money on a really expensive juicer. We found this one and decided to give it a try based on the price and good reviews. After using it for about a week I can honestly say we love it! Start your day with a veggie/fruit juice that really sets the tone and inspires you to make healthier choices. As for the machine, it's pretty nice and sturdy apart from the plastic clips that hold the bins together. They work well but I'm a little concerned that they can easily break after prolonged use. I'll update if that's the case. The rest of the machine is pretty easy to use and can be taken apart for cleaning. As others have suggested, peel it right away and all the pulp is just washed away, no scrubbing or anything like that. The only thing that requires a bit of work is a metal filter/strainer as tiny bits of pulp have to be scraped off. I make my juice and then immediately rinse everything and clean the filter. It will probably take a maximum of 5 minutes. Just enough time for my juice to chill on ice. The machine is noisy so don't plan on doing this while others are sleeping lest you get a stinky look from them. We prepare juices from different types of fruits and vegetables - different types of apples, oranges, tangerines, lemons, limes, pineapples. , kale, spinach, cucumber, ginger, celery, tomato, jalapeno, garlic, you name it. We have tried both sweet and savory juices and they are all delicious. We have also made pure fruit juice and let me tell you that nothing beats freshly squeezed orange juice! A Green Suggestion - Small greens don't work well on this machine. I tried broccoli and chopped kale and both basically flew down the chute into the pulp container. Large leafy greens work best. Here are some tips for new users: - Drink juice in the morning before eating anything else. This allows you to absorb the maximum amount of vitamins/minerals and get the maximum benefit. If you want to stay healthy, add only 1 fruit. 1 apple adds sweetness, so don't overdo it (unless that's what you like, of course). Carrots and beets are also high in sugar, so keep that in mind. Lemons/limes give a "sweet-sour" taste without a lot of sugar. - Peel the oranges/tangerines/lemons/limes and remove the pits/stones from the apples to remove some of the bitterness. - Drink the juice as soon as possible after preparation; it begins to oxidize and loses vital nutrients. I've read that you can store juice in an airtight container for up to 12 hours if you have to prepare it ahead of time, but you lose some of the nutrients compared to freshly made. The packaging in the pulp container is good, but let's be honest. It takes a full minute to shed and wash off the pulp. I think it's a waste of plastic bags but if you don't mind it will save you time. I personally prefer juice with ice; it's more refreshing and dulls the taste a bit. Hot spinach juice can be a bit tricky at first in the morning. Overall, I'm really excited about this juicer and don't regret the purchase at all. It might not be the most expensive high-quality juice out there, but it suits our needs and does the job perfectly. Highly recommended!0
