I wouldn't call it a mandatory compression shirt. The first set I ordered was a double XL. I normally fit into an oversized shirt but needed some room in case the compression was too tight. I tried on these first sets and they were too big and looked more like an XL size. For my second order, I ordered a size up, although it is recommended to order a size up. The tank top fits well and does what it's supposed to do, but I definitely wouldn't call it a compression shirt. I also ordered all black based on some reviews and compared to the color version I ordered earlier which is definitely thicker material. Since I'm really going to wear these jerseys for sports or every day, the color of a jersey wasn't that important to me. I find if I had ordered a size L which is one size larger it would be too loose when I normally wear it. I will test it during training and on normal working days.
