Review on ๐Ÿงถ Bernat Blanket Yarn, Silver Steel: Luxuriously Soft and Durable Winter Knitting/Crochet Yarn with a Silver Sheen by Amy Mcleod

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Yarn count varies

I have knitted 8 blankets with Bernat Blanket in the last 5 months. The yarn is very comfortable to work with and so soft. However, I can only give a 4 due to the quality differences. You will see in the pictures that part of the yarn is great, round and thick and part is almost flat. What surprised me is that despite this variation, the end result still feels good - soft and fluffy. However, when working with vintage white, all of the yarns were of good quality and there is a noticeable overall difference in the softness and thickness of the afghan linen made from this yarn. Sonoma's first product was very good. That set of four balls was about halfway through. You will also notice in the picture that there are several balls with connected ends. This is an annoying "patch" maker. Two rows apart I had knots that I had to cut out so I could make the ends to weave into the finished product. Another downside to this yarn is that on several occasions if I pulled more, a large chunk of yarn would come out and tangle terribly. At one point it was so bad that I had to cut it out, unravel it, and then weave it again. While I enjoy working with this yarn it has a few flaws but not enough to make me want to buy it again. This results in a wonderfully soft afghan. The Stripes version is thinner than the regular Bernat blanket, and the Baby blanket is generally a better quality, at least when it comes to petunias. The colors in this yarn are important - Vintage White seems to be the best quality, then Sonoma, then Harvest.

Pros
  • Composition: 100% Polyester
Cons
  • Expensive
