Title: A few product reviews for the USB-C hard drive expansion Summary: I have two different hard disk drive (HDD) enclosures for use with 2.5 inch solid state drives (SSDs) and 3.5-inch solid state drives (SSDs) purchased state drives (SSD). " Hard drives so I can switch drives. Primary use was to transfer data between computers and backup as a secondary purpose. Details: The main desktop computer is a Dell XPS 8920. The system drive is a 250GB -SSD The other two hard disk data drive, 1.0 TB and 6.0 TB External USB ports: USB-C 3.1 (rear), USB-A 3.1 (rear), USB-A 3.0 (front) The highest Transfer speed is achieved through the USB-C 3.1 connector, and the USB-A 3.0 ports on the front are not far behind, SSD via USB-C was faster than HDD via internal SATA bus (in preparation) Test method: I use ATTO Disk Benchmark (Freeware) I tried several different ones and I chose it because the resulting image was relatively easy to compare with other results I created a 50GB partition on the SSD and used that for all tests and configurations. With my results ha I mainly paid attention to the transfer rate for files larger than 1 MB. Observations: 1) The transfer rate between different adapters varied slightly. Both Orico and Nekteck were the fastest at 505 MB/s writing and 540 MB/s reading. VCZHS Tech Sata to USB took 3rd place with 420 MB/s writing and 440 MB/s reading. . The difference is stunning, you lose 90% speed. After setting the orientation for the USB-A connector, I checked and then marked (with a solid marker) the faster orientation. 3) Heat absorption with plastic cases can be a problem even in an air-conditioned office. One of the reasons I bought the ICY DOCK adapter was to fit a 2.5" SSD or HDD in it and it works effectively as a heatsink. Both the Nekteck holders and the Orico CLEAR PLASTIC had very small (or no) vents so airflow would be minimal. For the Nekteck I removed the top cover to allow some heat to escape.4) With the exception of the XAOSUN USB One adapter, all other adapters and cables worked perfectly and did not slow down the transfer rate. Conclusion: Take the time when purchasing these products to ensure (with a free program) that the transfer speeds are working correctly.
