I must have a bad and dangerous one

I bought a pair of Sonic Scrubbers a few years ago, a bathroom version and a kitchen version. The bathroom version worked well for years but was recently discontinued; So I opened up the kitchen version and used new Duracell batteries. I turned it on for a few sections and the batteries flew out the back and the scrubber started smoking.
