There are a few reviews on here that make this thing seem incredibly difficult or painful to set up. It's not one of them, and it's actually pretty easy to set up. Using my Windows 10 computer, I first went to the Brother P-Touch website and downloaded the full software drivers and installation package. When I did the installation, I was prompted to connect the printer at the right time. The setup went flawlessly. I ran the software update tool, which updates the firmware on my PT-700, including the Express program on the partition that came with it. Very easy. P-Touch Editor 5.2 is quite easy to use. Many options are available. I would say that this is not inherently intuitive. You can pick up any standalone Brother P-Touch label printer and it's pretty easy to figure out how to use it. The software here takes a little time to learn. In Express Mode, click Paper Options to set ribbon width, length (or auto), margins, and orientation. You then press the capital A to switch to text mode and a text box will be automatically created on the label. Type what you want and hit enter for new lines. The software allows you to add endless lines, but your practical limit, based on the printer resolution, really is 7-10 lines of 3.5pt each. You can then select the "Frame" option and add any frames (including custom) select. You may need to go back and adjust the label width if the frame doesn't fit. You can also add pictures or images to the label. I took my significant other's profile picture and turned it into a heart tag as a gift. The Layout option allows you to change the layout of object blocks on the screen. You must click on the border of this object for it to accept these commands. The benefit of having an object editor like this is that it makes things easier when connecting to a database. Brother has a nice video on their Youtube page detailing how to do this. Essentially, you can plug in any database or CSV file and associate form fields with specific object fields and align them where needed on the label. So you can automate mailing labels or labels with names and IDs for registration sheets or similar. The possibilities are endless. With this printer sitting on my desk, I have to say it's one of the most attractive office machines I've ever owned. The contrast of white and black looks great. The device is well weighted to prevent it from falling. And you can add batteries to make it even more stable and provide some backup power. Before printing, the printer ejects a 1 inch segment to ensure the ribbon is fed properly before printing. It's an inevitable part of the design and costs only 3 cents. never mind The only issue I had was that the side had to be opened to insert and remove new cartridges, like an old Walkman cassette player. However, this is an inevitable problem given the form factor. Overall this is a great printer and I have no regrets buying it for $30 after it was returned by someone who hated it. Excellent purchase!
