I like this little drive so far. I'm guessing it was new, and considering it survived the USPS with little packaging other than a postage stamp, it's reliable. I'm giving it three stars because the genius who packaged it put it in a box marked "single group" for sockets that was too small to drive. So he crushed the box so that the sides stick out a bit and the drive fits. For real? You couldn't afford a $2 box for that thing? Kudos to USPS for safe operation, but I'm glad I got $2 coverage for 4 years. Due to the poor packaging, I didn't want to take my machine apart to check it, so I used a SATA to USB converter and ran it as an external drive. Worked like a master with single and double layer DVDs and Blu-ray discs. I've burned several, not just one coaster. Check out the available write speeds and make sure you're using the right media. I had a box of old SS 4x writable DVDs that will not work in this drive.
