Of course it's my fault for not reading the ad carefully enough. You have Windows 10 Home Edition installed, which means you cannot join them to a domain. Of course, the word HOME is nowhere on the first page of the ad. You must carefully read the product description at the bottom of the page. Normally I wouldn't miss a thing, but when you spend 20 minutes looking for the best deal and browsing through 30+ options, it's easy to lose sight of the fact that this is a home OS and not a pro . live and learn I'm sure it will be just as reliable as the other 10 surfaces I own. It's just disappointing that this particular detail didn't get the spotlight. So now I have to return or upgrade.
