Review on πŸ”Š Sony SS-CS3 4-Driver Floor-Standing Speaker Pair - 3-Way, Enhanced Black by Justin Steele

Revainrating 5 out of 5

When it comes to speakers, SONY is no joke anymore.

. They seem to be fine without my help. But I came to Revain looking for a pair of passive floorstanding speakers and first looked at 3-way speakers just to see what was available before settling on a pair of 2-way Klipsch or whatever else I could afford could decide < 1200.00 for a pair. I didn't expect to find 3 strips for this money. When these Sonys first appeared, I treated them with contempt. Sony is certainly a maker of great audio and video equipment - I'm a fan of their mirrorless cameras and have more video equipment from them than any other company. But speakers? no Definitely not. For some reason, Sony never entered the speaker market. They seem to have made money mass producing mediocre speakers for the department store market; packaged stereo "systems" for convenience and cost reduction. In a word, they sucked. But they were so cheap and the reviews were so good. I started reading how in 2014 Sony released a pair of 40,000-strong speakers that shook the ultra-high frequency range. Shortly after, apparently as a result of their audio update, they released these. First. but I ordered them and connected them to my 140 watt 2-channel Marantz power amp via a tube preamp. These are great speakers. They are fully reproduced by my thick black Marantz, clean, warm and LOUD. I hear parts of the mix I've never heard before on albums I know by heart. The midrange components offer a clean layer of sound, and there's no denying that these speakers sound great. Just as good or even better than speakers, but more than twice the price. Bravo Sony, you did it again. It seems nobody knows, but you broke out of the mediocrity department store with your CS3 3-way speakers, and it's the best deal I've ever gotten on new hardware.

Pros
  • . Good workmanship.
Cons
  • . No.
