Will not work until plugged back into charger

I use this to light candles as intended. The device works normally except for the following error mode: Sometimes it stops working. Flipping the switch doesn't help. The only way to get the device working again was to plug it into a charger, but it didn't last long until the battery indicators started flashing during power detection. Takes maybe 5 seconds. One possible reason it stopped working is some sort of short circuit detection to protect the device, as often happens when the tip of the arc gets too close to the candle wick (but still doesn't light the candle). If I had been more patient and waited a few minutes the device might have exceeded its self-protection, but I just want to light a candle rather than do more experiments and haven't figured out if waiting longer would work. actually had to charge the battery as 4 out of 5 lights are still on. This failure mode happened maybe 4-5 times. It's annoying. It also means I won't be using it in situations where the charger isn't available. It is not good to light candles when there is a power outage. Or start a grill or make a fire, unless I bring a USB portable battery to reset the unit. It's serviceable enough that I won't be returning it, but I'm disappointed with it. Edit to add: when the battery level was at 3 out of 5 lights, the short circuit protection kicked in on almost every other use, and I ended up leaving a USB rechargeable battery next to the lighter to reset it. After it got annoying I fully charged the cigarette lighter and at 5 lights the short circuit protection didn't even work even though I've used it dozens of times. Perhaps you can just fully charge this thing the first time the short circuit protection trips, rather than waiting for the battery status indicator to drop to 1 or 2 of the 5 LEDs. Still a bit annoying, but durable/usable. Second edit: I've used this with Yankee Candle products. I recently bought a Village Candle and the wick material must be different as the Village Candle is much easier to light. And so far there have been noticeably fewer discharges.
