too difficult to balance

Bought these for an adult field day and found them very difficult to balance. The bowls on the spoons are very flat and fairly smooth due to the lacquered surface. I used a spoon to spray some spray glue on the bowl to increase the stickiness so players could actually complete the game instead of whining about how difficult it was to balance. (Yes, I understand it must be difficult, but it was too difficult for a fun game). I suggest cutting the spoon bowls a bit larger and using colored stain instead of glossy paint.
