HUGE but can be squeezed to fit

We travel regularly with 2 dogs. One of them is a bit oversized, at least for an American woman (she weighs 18 pounds and is quite tall). I should start off by saying that we fly America very often and have no experience with other airlines so our experiences may not necessarily match. The US website lists a maximum of 20 pounds for the dog and carrier together, and with our 17 pound carrier she weighed only 25 pounds. so it's heavy (but it's weighted down with wheels that can be removed). However, she has only been weighed once in the entire time we have flown her. a cranky agent on the outskirts of Miami. Elsewhere, they "just watch her" and think she's close enough. We usually land on regional jets, which, believe it or not, often have a lot of space under the seats (because they don't have under-seat power packs). While this carrier will definitely get the agents' attention (it looks huge), it can crash anywhere, and the entire wheeled platform detaches fairly easily, giving it a near-standard size. So, depending on the airline and plane, you may have problems with that airline. However, if you need to transport a large dog, this is a great way to do it. It feels comfortable on the inside, circulates well and is easy to see, the extendable handle is easy to pull and my dog is fine with it. Disadvantages, as already mentioned. If a heavier dog shifts its weight, it may tip over. Also, the handle doesn't rise, meaning the extended handle rests on the ground if you need to lower the handle for a minute. he cannot sit up straight, so he may stumble in a crowd. We found that the most annoying. Finally, it is really necessary to remove the rolling platform before boarding, as this will be very difficult when you arrive at the site, so you will have to carry (rather than pull) your pet over the ramp and the plane. In short, I think this is the biggest airline you can get away with for air travel. Our other dog uses the snoozer (large size) in comparison, and while this carrier is smaller, it's usually a lot harder to tuck under the seat because the base doesn't collapse. Good Trip.
