In the past I've bought speakers for $100 or less, but I decided I wanted to get richer sound from my portable speaker, so I invested in the XB43. I'm glad I did as the sound quality compared to cheaper speakers is worth it. The size of the XB43 is quite large compared to what I had before. It's just over a meter long and quite heavy. I think that's what you need to get good sound. The XB43 connects quickly to my laptop or phone after switching it on. So far I've used my speaker for over 10 hours and the speaker says I have about 50% battery left. If you want to save the battery, you can leave it plugged in. In terms of sound, this is a big upgrade over the $100 speakers. It has tight bass (don't expect subwoofer depth though) and balances high and low frequencies well. I turned it on while playing modern pop music with no distortion. It can definitely be quite loud for its size.
