Review on πŸ”Œ Scosche FDK11B: Perfect Wire Harness for Select 2003-08 Ford Premium Sound & Audiophile Systems by Shah Jones

Great pendant with a little flaw

I bought this for my 2004 Ford Escape with Mach stereo to use with a Pioneer DEH-150MP replacement stereo. Everything fits great, although using wire butt connectors without the right crimping tool is a headache. This is clearly not a reflection of this product. I only have one complaint. It has nothing to do with how the product was made, but what it lacks. And that would baffle me if I didn't find any mention of someone doing the same setup as me on an online forum. Standard stereos have a 12V output to the subwoofer, but Ford uses 5V. Therefore, a voltage regulator must be soldered to the wiring harness to avoid the loud "popping" that occurs without a regulator when the unit is turned on . This is a $2 part I bought from Radio Shack (+7805 5V fixed voltage regulator, model: 7805, part number: 276-1770). And for someone who had never soldered electronics before, it was a little tedious. As it is being sold for systems with a subwoofer I feel the addition of this voltage regulator is a must. Despite my complaints, I still think this is great suspension. And it seems that the lack of a voltage regulator is an industry-wide problem because I looked at other wiring harnesses before buying and none of them had one. And if not included, then at least state what you need in the directions. This is of particular benefit to us do-it-yourselfers.
