The lamp is reasonably constructed, but it is not bullet proof. I can see where someone who is not careful could easily damage the adjusting screws and mechanisms. I like that it is portable and stands on its own without being clamped to a desk (but could be). That makes it much more versatile in my opinion and worth the money.The light is bright enough for seeing well when using the magnifying lens, but is dim enough on low setting that I keep it on as a night light .Overall, it could be more solidly built, but then it would be more expensive. With light handed care, and knowing not to adjust positions until the screws have been loosened first, it should last for a decent amount of time.
