The main principle of this product is its ability to shut off the gas supply and power to the gas stove if a fire alarm is triggered. However, I realized that with such an alarm, I would either be cooking or be near the gas stove. This allows me to quickly turn off the handles connected to running burners, and honestly I don't need a device to do the same. Another situation that can arise is when I have the stovetop on while I'm cooking something but I'm not at home. In this case there are two possibilities: 1. There is dense smoke, but no fire (yet) and 2. There is fire. For the 2nd case, even if this device turns everything off since I'm not at home, the fire will continue. Thus, the efficiency of the device is equal to zero. The first and only function is when there is smoke to cook with, and yes, this is where this device comes in handy. In addition, the smoke factor usually leads to a future fire. But - behind this 1 advantage is a downside. The problem is that I've experienced numerous false alarms when cooking due to the sensitivity and location of the alarm. This triggers the device and causes problems when cooking or especially when baking as everything shuts down! I feel like I've seen the negative side at least twice a month compared to the positive side (no one smokes at home) which I haven't experienced before. to witness that it really makes no sense for my family to have this device. It probably makes sense when there are a lot of teens who are dropping things, forgetful people etc. I think this is a niche product for a specific group of people and not for the general public. A significantly better use case would be where it is a 3/4" or 1" line that connects to an incoming gas line from a gas company AND connects to home automation systems like Smart Things. Then, as a consumer, I have a lot more control because I can connect it to the gas sensors and cause the valve to close.
