Review on Emerson Ceiling CF711ORS Indoor 50 Inch by Summer Edwards

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Attractive fan with some flaws

One of these fans was installed in my bedroom and after 10 years the bearings failed. I felt this was a bit premature as the fan is only used about half the time (I know they don't do things the way they used to) but I love the color and style and was glad he did is still on. in production. and relatively cheap which is why I ordered it after trying unsuccessfully to lubricate the shaft. The first one I received had dirt in the paint and I couldn't balance anything (I haven't tried a balance kit) so I ordered another one and will be returning the first one with Revain's excellent return policy. The second fan had a much better finish, but I'm having the same problem balancing it. It has only a very slight variation in pitch. For some strange reason I can't fully tighten 2 of the 4 screws in the hanger that I had the same problem with on the first fan and also on the original after I took it off and oiled it. The 2 screws that the ceiling cover hangs on are tightened flush with the cover, but the other 2 are only partially tightened and then just stop turning, preventing the fan from fully engaging. I'm 99% sure this is the cause of the fan wobble but I don't know how to fix it. When I remove the fan I can screw all 4 screws all the way into the bracket, when the fan is hanging on the bracket only screw 2 of them all the way in. Very unpleasant. UPDATE: my dad managed with some effort (probably harder than me) to screw two more screws all the way into the bracket. The fan wobbles a bit, but is very small at the highest speed. There is a little chain movement on the medium, but no noticeable fan wobble. I tried a balance kit and it worked, but I could see the weights on top of the blades from the ground so I removed them. It seems to get a little better with time (maybe I'm just getting used to it) but I can definitely live with it.

Pros
  • Good thing
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
