I have used this to successfully connect 8 RS-232 temperature controllers to a single USB port. I read in 0.5 second intervals and it works fine. The strange thing is that the port mapping didn't match the port numbering on the box. It was hit and miss. I had to poll on a port and move the device connection to different ports to see which one was active. And for some reason even unused port numbers were skipped. So I had ports 1-6 mapped to com 8-com 13 and then mapped 7 and 8 to com 15 and 16. Com 1-6 was also not mapped to 8 and 13 in that order. port 1 was connected to com 10 in random order. I've ordered a second one for a different system so it should show you that matching isn't the first priority and once I figure that out it never needs to be redone. I've disconnected and reconnected a few times and the port mapping persisted.
