Not the heaviest of materials, but the locking cam system and plastic teeth on the carrier are not very strong. I'll be using this rack once a month or so and it's probably fine for that. If this is a daily user I would go for a heavier brand. I only bought this because they were able to deliver before my trip and then of course they didn't deliver when they said (3 days late) and I had to skip the trip. I installed it on the trunk of an Adarac truck which has thicker square tubing than the original bolts. I ordered longer stainless steel bolts and nuts from HD and used them in place of the stock hardware.
