I don't know why this adapter doesn't require SATA power, but I've tried a few SATA powered adapters and found them unreliable and the extra power cable annoys me. This works great! Good for connecting multiple graphics cards, I'm currently running 4 cards in 1 slot with no issues. I have a server power supply with a breakout board that powers the graphics cards. This is a great alternative for those who don't want to shell out the extra cash for a 6 or 12 PCIE slot motherboard. It works perfectly! Very satisfied. cost efficient.
