Fits oil drain plugs for 19 WRX

Threads look well made and overall the product is heavy and feels quality. My OEM drain plug (probably too soft for metal) started leaking after my last (4th oil change). This prompted me to finally pull the fumoto trigger. Expensive compared to a regular drain plug, but the convenience and not having to replace the OEM drain plug every 2 oil changes makes it worth it in my opinion. I didn't buy this valve right away thinking I wouldn't be able to drain the oil. the same amount, since the threads protrude into the drip tray. However, I found that the reservoir that is in the sump probably protrudes about the same distance into the sump and there will always be some oil that is not drained. It's definitely better than looking for a leak through the plug right after a fresh oil change. Also, the WRX spits out oil as if you've reached an oil reserve, no matter how carefully you unscrew the plug. So that's a big plus (and of course the main feature of this product). I haven't changed the oil since, but from the videos I've seen draining the oil should be no problem. I opted for a short valve outlet (rather than none) because I thought it would better direct the oil flow. I would question the durability of the grommets on the valve (when I looked inside they looked like hard plastic/delrin) but then again, how often is this opened and closed? I followed the instructions where you tighten the bolt all the way by hand and then turn it an additional 1/8 turn with a 19mm wrench. It was pretty tight, felt like it was outside of the OEM torque spec which is 30 ft/lb). I used the washer/spacer that came with the kit. No leakage, no problem.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Could have opted for a newer model
